Good afternoon Peirce families in 201!
Here is the newsletter for the week:
Math:
We started our multiplication unit this week. Students learned about equal groups and why they are special. They also learned how to write multiplication number sentences (equations). We will continue multiplication next week. We do a number talk every day which helps students use mental math and listen to others' strategies.
Writing:
We started Writer's Workshop this week. Each student has his/her own notebook and we learned 2 strategies for coming up with a true story if you are stuck. Ask your student about thinking of a person and small moments and thinking of a place and mapping small moments!
Reading:
We started Reading Workshop and Raz kids this week. We learned about how to make reading the best it can be and reading like curmudgeon vs. reading like books are gold! Students read for at least 30 minutes a day independently.
Science/Social Studies:
We started our IB Unit Who We Are this week. The Central Idea is: Our beliefs and values cause us to take action. We read "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" and discussed the main character's values/beliefs and the actions he took. Ask your student to retell the story and ask about values/actions.
Homework:
Students received a reading log that goes home each Monday. It is due the following Monday. Students are expected to read 30 minutes each night and record it in their reading log. Spelling homework will begin next week. Students should have access to ST Math and Razkids at home, if they wish to work on these.
Reminders:
If you have not returned the medical, media, and income forms to the school, please send them with your student on Monday.
Join ClassTag if you haven't already so you can keep up with our class story! If you did not receive an invite to sign up, contact me at [email protected].
As always, let me know if you have questions, wonderings, or noticings about your student.
Happy Friday!
Ms. Wagner
